Dr. Julie Mirpuri

Dr. Mirpuri is a physician-scientist at UT Southwestern who both takes care of preterm babies in the neonatal intensive care unit and is the PI of a lab. Her lab focuses on studying how a newborn's immune system interacts with bacteria in the intestine. In the interview, she gives insights into both her clinical and lab work, sharing her inspirations for this career path.

Dr. Ambardekar is a pediatric anesthesiologist at UT Southwestern who also conducts clinical research to study the best treatments for burn-inured patients under anesthesia. Furthermore, Dr. Ambardekar is one of the directors of the Anesthesia Residency Program where she mentors future doctors. She describes her career and the connection between clinical work and research. 

Brittany Stewart, 2012 STARS alumna, is a 5th year graduate school student at UT Southwestern studying molecular microbiology, specifically viruses. She describes the type of research she conducts and her path leading to this career. 

Lupita Rios, 2012 STARS alumna, shares her career thus far as a 4th year graduate school student pursuing a PhD in neuroscience at UT Southwestern. Her research focuses on studying a specific area of the brain and its effect on depression. She also founded a small business called "Pita's Planters." 

Priya Mandava, 2019 STARS alumna, is on the BS/MD track. She describes why she chose this unique college pathway and her interest in becoming a doctor. 

Dr. Finnegan tells us about how she decided she wanted to be a doctor and shares her most interesting cases as an orthopedic surgeon! She was very encouraging about the increased opportunities for women as well as the improving time commitment that allows her to have a family.

Dr. Bendeck-Rydell shares her career path and her day to day experiences as a dermatologist.
